Renovations to the Museum

At this time the Oakland Train Station is open for special or seasonal events only. The process is underway to renovate the station anticipating the acceptance of the B & O Rail Road Museum in Baltimore to authorize this station as a satellite museum of the B&O.

An engineering firm has been hired to write the specifications for the improvements needed.  Currently meetings are underway with the Maryland Historical Trust to ensure any improvements or maintenance done will not harm the nature of or design of the structure.

Improvements will include an HVAC system (air conditioning) for climate control, a humidification system to ensure the correct humidity is maintained at all times, treatments to the glass to reduce sun damage to the artifacts, and general touch up and repair of the external faces of the building.

It is anticipated this work will be completed by end of summer 2012.  At that time it is hoped we will be moving equipment and artifacts in from the B&O museum in Baltimore.
